PATENTED R-SYMMETRIC DESIGN
A balanced wheel is a stiff wheel, and therefore a faster wheel. We set out to determine the answer to a specific engineering optimization question: what is the perfect hub geometry and spoke lacing pattern that will create the most balanced, most durable, and stiffest wheel possible? It took many months of programming, but the results were well worth it.
LABYRINTH SEALED HUBS AND NON-CONTACT BEARINGS
Have you ever spun a wheel in your hands and had it feel, well, not so good? We hate that. We created a system that would allow for free spinning bearings and ultra fast wheels. A labyrinth seal is machined directly into our hubs, with extremely tight tolerances and material overlaps that make it impossible for water and debris to reach those precious bearings. There are no plastic dust shields to create drag, and no energy lost to unnecessary friction.
ONE-PIECE ADJUSTABLE AXLES (new picture needed)
Premature bearing wear way too common for our liking, and we have designed a threaded one-piece axle that will put a stop to the madness. The one-piece design, along with the use of aluminum 7075, means that the axle will not bend and flex under load. So the bearings won't torque and become damaged every time you stand and put the power down. The threaded end cap allows for the perfect amount of pre-load on each bearing, without overloading it and causing unwanted friction. It's a simple and efficient design that results in durability and speed.
CARBON FIBER RIMS (new picture needed)
The Alto Velo carbon rims were created using a proprietary composite laminate designed by our own engineers. Carbon fiber composite is made up of two parts: carbon fibers and resin, laid down in sheets, called plies, to create a laminate. How these sheet are oriented determines how the laminate responds under specific loads. That's why carbon fiber is so cool! It is our laminate design design, along with the aerodynamic cross sectional shape and industry leading manufacturing techniques, that create the lightest and fastest rims possible.
ALUMINUM RIMS (new picture needed)
Our alloy rims are truly something special - manufactured out of 6061 aluminum, they are light and fast for racing but more than durable enough for day-to-day riding. With an aerodynamic 26mm profile and 24mm brake track width, these rims are fast, stable, and confidence inspiring. The internal profile of the rim is designed to make it clincher and tubeless compatible - a two-in-one option that can't be beat.
At Alto Velo we leave nothing to chance. Our engineers are using state of the art solid modeling and finite element analysis software to create the most optimal designs possible. We test every part in every load condition to be sure it is as light as it can be while also staying well above the required factor of safety. Optimization at its finest.
